What is Chatamari ?


Chatamari is a popular Newari food, which is also known as Newari pizza. Though it doesn’t taste like pizza, but it looks like a pizza. It has a very thin crust base made from rice flour with delicious toppings like marinated mined buff, chicken, mushroom or veg and covering and binding with beaten egg on top.

      Ingredients:

  • 1 cup rice flour
  • 2 cups around water
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup minced meat (chicken, or buffalo)
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped fresh coriander
  • 1 teaspoon cumin powder
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 medium sized onion finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1 green chilly finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 Tablespoon garlic-ginger paste
  • 1 tablespoons Mustard Oil or extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil

    Instructions:

  • In a bowl mix together rice flour and water until you get a thin batter but not too watery. Add water slowly and more if needed.
  • In another bowl mix together the meat if using, onion, cilantro, cumin-coriander powder, chili powder, pepper, salt, ginger-garlic paste, mustard oil & chopped green chilly
  • In a plain griddle (tawa) that has a lid, heat a tablespoon of oil to medium high heat. A non-stick tawa works great for this.
  • Pour the batter to make a 9 inch thin circle like a pancake.
  • Add a portion of marinated meat on top and spread evenly and gently.
  • Break a whole egg on top and spread to cover the meat.
  • Cover and cook for 7-8 minutes
  • Serve hot you can ads some cilantro for garnish
